Eye Services

In addition to our standard services, we also provide some specialist care not readily available with a general optometrist. These reflect the additional training our optometrists have obtained, and the equipment that we have in our practice to facilitate this.

Paediatrics and behavioural optometry

Our optometrists all have extensive experience with children, and are well equipped to diagnose and manage the vision of the developing child. As the majority of our learning is visual, making sure that a child’s vision is functioning efficiently provides better outcomes for learning. Our senior optometrist Daniel has completed additional qualifications with the University of New South Wales in Behavioural Optometry. For more information, see the ACBO website.

Disability Services

We have a consulting room designed for patients who are unable to leave their wheelchair. The standard examination chair can be removed from its position and the patient in their wheelchair can be positioned correctly for their eye examination.

The patient can have spectacles measured, and have a slitlamp & fundus examination from the comfort of their own chair.

All patients need to do is advise us that they’re confined to their wheelchair when booking an appointment so we can book them in the appropriate consulting room.

Contact lens fitting

In addition to standard disposable contact lenses, we also fit and supply an extensive range of specialist contact lenses, including:

  • Multifocal contact lenses
  • Extended wear contact lenses that you can wear overnight
  • ortho-K lenses to eliminate the need for glasses
  • rigid gas permeable lenses (RGPs)
  • Specialist lenses for keratoconus and other conditions requiring a specialist fit, including scleral contact lenses
  • Myopia control contact lenses

Dry Eye Diagnosis and Therapy

At Insight Vision Care we are well equipped to diagnose dry eye and to treat it effectively.

Dry eye symptoms can be varied, depending on its cause. The eyes can feel dry, but they can also water a lot! Most commonly there is pain or discomfort, which patients often describe as feeling like they have sand in their eyes. You can also experience itchiness, and blurred vision.

Treatments for dry eye vary from the use of targeted drops; therapies to improve tear function both for use at home, or other in office clinical therapies; and advice regarding dietary and behavioural changes and environment. These treatments should be targeted to the specific form of dry eye that you have, in order to provide the greatest relief from symptoms.

Therapeutics

Our optometrists are endorsed to prescribe a range of eye drops to treat eye diseases, including dry eye, glaucoma and eye infections.

PRECISION TINTED LENSES AND VISUAL STRESS

Visual stress (Meares-Irlen syndrome) is a sensitivity to visual patterns, particularly stripes and repeated patterns. In some people this can cause visual perception problems when reading, leading to blurring or movement of text, letters appearing to change size or shape, and fatigue or headaches when reading. These can occur even if vision is otherwise normal.

Visual stress is not the same as dyslexia, but it is more common in individuals with dyslexia, and can make management easier.

Visual stress is best managed with the use of tinted lenses. Our practice is equipped with the Cerium Intuitive Colorimeter®, which allows us to reliably and repeatably determine the best tint that will relieve visual stress for the individual.

SPecialty Lens Tints

In addition to the custom precision tinted lenses mentioned above, we also are suppliers of specialty lens tints that relieve the symptoms of glare due to other neurological causes, such as migraines or post-concussion syndrome. These include:

  • FL41 – this is a reddish brown tint that has been shown to improve symptoms of glare sensitivity following traumatic brain injury, and is available in a range of densities.
  • Avulux® – this is a blue-green proprietary tint designed specially for migraine sufferers.

Post-concussive and traumatic brain injury care.

Following head trauma it is not uncommon to experience perceptual disturbances impacting vision and our other senses. Our optometrist Daniel is experienced in addressing these issues, and uses a combination of devices and vision therapy to achieve the best recovery outcomes for patients.

Insight Vision Care has strong links to several treatment centres for concussion and traumatic brain injury, including the Epworth Concussion Clinic in Waurn Ponds.

We are registered healthcare providers for TAC and Workcover patients*.
